Application of Geographic Information Systems and Global Positioning Systems for Public Health Rapid Needs Assessments in Disaster Settings

چکیده
Rapid needs assessments are an important postdisaster epidemiologic method used to determine the magnitude and severity of a situation, the amount of resources required, as well as the need for and feasibility of interventions. GIS is a tool for linking epidemiologic information with other data sources that can improve rapid needs assessment methods by enhancing area identification, sampling, data collection, analysis and dissemination of information. This paper illustrates uses of GIS technology in conducting rapid needs assessments.
